Professor Jhuma Sadhukhan

Professor Jhuma Sadhukhan is Professor of Environmental, Energy and Chemical Engineering at the University of Surrey. She is recognised among the most highly regarded scientists worldwide, ranked in the world’s top 0.5% by Stanford University for annual citations and in the top 1% for career-long impact.

She serves as Associate Director of the Global Center for Sustainable Bioproducts and was named the University of Surrey’s Vice Chancellor Researcher of the Year in 2024. Her work focuses on life cycle assessment (LCA), carbon footprinting and sustainability analysis, and she has authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications that have shaped international standards, industry practice and government policy on net-zero transitions and the circular economy.

Professor Sadhukhan has co-led major interdisciplinary research grants exceeding £50m and has advised multinational companies, SMEs and policymakers on sustainable product development, emissions reduction strategies and resource efficiency. She has also supervised more than 70 doctoral and postdoctoral researchers who now hold senior positions in academia and industry worldwide.

At the Tourism Summit in Budapest, she brings her expertise as the LCA lead for the team unveiling SPA-DEC, the world’s first carbon calculator designed specifically for spa and wellness facilities, ensuring the methodology is rigorous, ISO-aligned and decision-ready.
